1. Enhancing Assembly Line Efficacy Through Referral Collaboration

When an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customer sought to optimize production line efficiency, the Wolverine Coil Spring's (WCS) Engineering team received a recommendation from one of the OEM suppliers. Upon arrival, our engineer conducted a thorough assessment of the assembly line, engaging in discussions about the current improvement objectives. The existing design involved using screws to secure clips to the product, presenting a challenge for assembly technicians who had to hold the clip in place with one hand while reaching for a screw gun and screw with the other. WCS's engineer identified that a modification to the current clip's design could eliminate the need for screws altogether. Collaborating closely with the OEM's engineering team, constructive discussions led to a modification of the existing clip design. WCS then developed a new prototype based on the revised design. The part underwent testing, received approval, and was integrated into production by WCS. The modified clip was implemented on the assembly line, resulting in reduced material usage, labor requirements, and a notable 20% increase in productivity. This successful collaboration not only achieved significant operational improvements but also led to the acquisition of a new, long-term partner for Wolverine Coil Spring.
